Alexia Voulgaridou has been recently celebrated with an outstanding critical and public success in her role debut as Cio-Cio San at Hamburgische Staatsoper’s new production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Die Welt wrote “highlights of the evening, belonging mainly to her” and Stern.com wrote: “Perfect match for the marvellously Greek soprano Alexia Voulgaridou, singer of overwhelming expressive power. Her debut was the event of the evening. It is admirable with what a superb vocal art and lustrous tone she did make believable the fine fragility and yet so strong humanity of this character. The Hamburg Opera audience rightly thanks her with a rarely seen long applause … ”, and Spiegel Online wrote: “… the Greek soprano Alexia Voulgaridou performed with such intensity … any theater would be lucky to present her exceptional talent …”
Madama Butterfly from Hamburg will be broadcast on ARTE on December 30, 2012 (23h).
